Attestations from sources in English: 

Perhaps a better translation would be "people of a single patio," or "a household" -- a compound or cluster of rooms occupied by multiple generations that include blood relatives and relatives through marriage? The sense is of a "family," perhaps from the European point of view more than the Nahua.

Louise Burkhart translates cemithualtin as "those of one patron."
