Epcoatl was also another name for the rain deity, Tlaloc. ("nom divin, autre nom ou titre de Tlaloc")
A famous Epcoatl was a boy who died at Pantitlan, a special place in the lake where child sacrifices were made to the rain deities; his special ritual clothing was decorated with mussel shells. Sahagún 2,43 = Sahagún 1927, 57.
