-ĪCAMPA postposition behind, behind one’s back / detrás de algo (M), detrás de mi (M for first pers. sg. possessor), detrás de algunos (M), detrás de las espaldas de algo (C) C fails to mark the vowel of the first syllable long in seven attestations on a single page. Some of the other attestations can be understood as possessive Ī- added to –ICAMPA, yielding a single long Ī. But a half dozen cases with a marked long vowel remain. Z consistently marks the vowel of the second syllable long as well and has a nominal reading ‘one’s shoulders’ for the gloss of one attestation. For the locative sense ‘behind something’ Z has the alternate forms TLAĪCAMPA and TLAĪCAN. This conventionally pairs with –TEPOTZCO ‘at one’s back,’ the whole phrase meaning ‘when one is dead.’.
