Alejandro de Ávila Blomberg reminds us that the Spanish word pez has another meaning (other than fish), quoting from the Diccionario de la Real Academia: "Sustancia resinosa, lustrosa, quebradiza y de color pardo amarillento, que se obtiene de la trementina y que, mezclada con estopa y otros materiales, sirve para calafatear embarcaciones de madera." He adds that tzauhtli is "the orchid mucilage used as a glue."
