Tlacuepaliztli is attested in a seventeenth-century music manuscript in Nahuatl from Guatemala, translated as "la transformación." It is paired with tlaycuaniliztl (also seen in the plural as: tlaychuanilizti and tlaycuanilizme). The authors translate this as "una alternancia."
