TLĀLHUĒHUĒ-TL pl: -MEH tarantula / tarántula (araña) (T) [(1)Tp.240]. In the absolutive form the second element appears to be HUĒHUĒ-TL ‘upright drum,’ but the somewhat peculiar plural form would make sense as the reflex of TLĀLHUĒHUĒN-MEH, and ‘old man’ seems more appropriate to a large hairy spider than ‘drum’ in any case. See TLĀL-LI, HUĒHUEH. Frances Karttunen, An Analytical Dictionary of Nahuatl (Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1992), 274.
