Headword:
iuctli.
Principal English Translation:
a young sibling (see Karttunen)
IPAspelling:
iwktɬi
Frances Karttunen:
IUC-TLI a young sibling / mi hermano o hermana menor (dice la hermana mayor) (M for first pers. sg. possessor) mi hermana menor (dice el hermano mayor) (M fors first pers. sg. possessor) [(r)Bf.11V, (r)Cf. 119V]. S provides the absolutive suffix. This is only attested in possessed form. M´s is ambiguous; it may mean that this term is used form ‘younger sibling of the opposite sex’ and also for ‘little sister’ by older sisters. Or it may mean that it is used by both sexes for ‘little sister’ and also for ‘brother’ by sisters in general. The possessed form of this is often misleadingly spelled -icuh.
