Martín Cortés had twins, and when they were baptized in Tlaxcala in 1566 they were carried to the church on a dais. At that time the people who paid tribute to the Marqués came to watch the baptism. The lords of Cuernavaca attended, too, bringing their flags and their wind instrument, the "trompa mayor." (ca. 1582, Mexico City)
