The root of this verb is ilpia, to tie. A glyph for tlalpia in the Matrícula de Huexotzinco () shows a loincloth. Despite the start of tlal- to this verb, it is not about land (tlalli), but rather combines the indefinite object (tla-) with (-ilpia). (SW)
