something sticky for catching birds (see Molina); or, cloth or clothing (see Karttunen)
IPAspelling:
tɬɑsɑːlli
Alonso de Molina:
tlazalli. liga para cazar o prender paxaros. Alonso de Molina, Vocabulario en lengua castellana y mexicana y mexicana y castellana, 1571, part 2, Nahuatl to Spanish, f. 115r. col. 2. Thanks to Joe Campbell for providing the transcription.
Frances Karttunen:
TLAZĀL-LI something sticky such as bird lime; clothing, cloth / liga para cazar o prender pájaros (M), ropa, trapo, tela, género (Z) [(8)Zp.104,111,120,125,172,184,214]. This is abundantly attested in Z with the sense of ‘clothing, cloth.’ M has only the ‘bird lime’ sense, which in the sources for this dictionary are supported by derivations from ZĀLOĀ ‘to glue, join something.’ Frances Karttunen, An Analytical Dictionary of Nahuatl (Norman: University of Oklahoma Press, 1992), 305.
